your hand + my hand

A mid-weekend thought: Would you rather have the I-can't-help-it-I-don't-know-what-it-is-I'm-simply-overcome-with-you kind of love, or the I've-calculated-the-risks-and-I've-weighed-my-options-and-I've-decided-to-choose-you kind of love?

P.S. If you need a simple and sweet gift for your valentine, scoop up one of Pablo Neruda's collections of love poems.  His poems aren't necessarily simple or sweet — more like complicated and wild — but reading one of them aloud would be.  Sometimes my valentine reads me a sonnet as I'm falling asleep.  I think he is the calculator-weigher-chooser kind of love.

(For the rest of Sonnet XVII...)

  1. I think a little bit of the calculated+overwhelmed is good. Overwhelmed at the beginning, followed by calculated. Someone too incredibly prone to their emotions can also be prone to emotional mood swings...need a little of both. Definitely.

  2. i used this poem in a little love gift...super sweet!

  3. Neruda is one of my favorite (favorite!) poets. Do you ever get a single line from a poem stuck in your head? Lately I've found myself repeating "I like for you to be still", just that first line, through out the day.
